Appearing in 1931, the founders of GIA set out from the beginning to shed light on and clarify the gemstone industry. Then, as of now, the market was saturated with counterfeit products.
GIA is also the basis of one of the most important inventions for verifying the authenticity of a diamond: the magnifying glass with a flattened three-lens system. Then they developed Diamond Scope for verifying dark areas of diamonds.
Thanks to GIA, today we have finalised the four criteria that underlie the evaluation of a diamond (also known as 4C): colour, clarity, carat and cut.
